Cream issue #37 is going to be hitting the shelves in the states here in a couple of weeks (already out in Europe). Look for a spread that Chad Phaire and I worked our asses of to get. It’s a beautiful shot from the NY Harbor. Risky, but well worth it. Chris Janis was nice enough to speak with me on an article that tells the story of Catty Woods. Some great shots of Clint Reynolds, and some great reading … I’m really excited about this one. And lastly, some images and words from The Banks Jam last fall. Look for it, tell you friends. Cream is a great mag that can be found at Dans Comp and Empire if you aren’t lucky enough to have a local reatiler that sells it. I’d love to see the popularity of this magazine explode, it’s a great publication.

Chad Phaire in MickeyDs for my camera & The Come Up

I am real hyped on Chad Phaire right now. The kid is blowing up in a serious way. I was given the opportunity to work with Chad on some shots as his interview on TheComeUpBMX.net was being put together.  The goal for the shoot was color, which is a tough thing to find in Manhattan on a cold winter night. On the way to meet him I rode by a building in the east village that I have wanted to hit since its opening recently. It is heavily guarded, so we only got two hits in. Luckily, Chad has his barspins dialed … pulled both off perfectly. We were out quick – no joke, the guard is just outside the left of the frame, storming towards us.

I work near Union Square, and often find myself in the McDonalds on 15^th St. and 6^th Ave. This restaurant was recently remodeled leaving it looking like a trendy lounge. Idea #2, portraits in the posh McDonalds. I wanted the stripes specifically. The staff/management were pissed once they saw us hiking up the stairs to the dining area with our bikes. We told them that we wouldn’t fuck up their new paint job, but they kept an eye on us for sure. After about 20 minutes, Chad and I walked over with his bike and started shooting against the wall. The lighting was shitty, but the setup was gorgeous.

All in all, I am thrilled with the way things came out. Chad’s face is plastered all over The Come Up … and that makes me happy. Be sure to check Chad’s blog for new images and video. He is real good about keeping it updated. The full interview can be seen here on The Come Up.

Tasso - bigBear Illustration

Great illustrator and good friend, Tasso, hails from San Diego, California. One of those hardcore Myspace promoters, Tasso seemed to be on my dashboard multiple times every time I logged on. I don’t remember the first time I ever messaged him – I’m sure it was a photo comment or something unimportant. He and I had talked photo a few times here and there, but that was the extent of our Myspace friendship. Around the same time I purchased a new Panasonic Lumix LX-2 (I think it was). I got it home and tested the raw and manual shooting features right at my desk for a few days. One of the shots was a self-portrait where I had my fingers in the shape of a heart. The photo was intended to end up on the desktop of whatever girl I was head-over-heels with at the time. I had apparently uploaded it to my Myspace account. Not a day or two later I sign in to find that exact image in the form of a graphic character. I instantly knew what had happened. I jumped over to Tasso’s page to find it, in all its glory, titled with edition information. Tasso and I have worked together a bit here and there since. His photography has been taking off, and his grand art-community-improving plans along with his shows (Art-iculated) keep him busy full-time these days.
